Harmony Practice is a simple application that could be of great interest to those people who practice music. It can help to understand better the four-part harmony relying on the classical rules. The program allows both writing music and listening to music. The user can choose one of the instruments available on the list for playing music. This list is quite long and contains such items, as electric piano, acoustic grand and many more.

The utility has an intuitive interface that allows to concentrate fully on music practicing. The main part of the interface is an area with lines for creating harmonies, which is called the exercise window. Each exercise can be saved as a single file or even as an audio midi file for further usage. Also you can print the exercise right from the program interface. The most important feature of Harmony Practice is the possibility of analyzing the harmony with the aim of finding mistakes. If there is an error, the application marks it with the red color and shows a special window with its description.

Harmony Practice is absolutely free. It is supported by all the most widespread versions of Windows operating system.

Excellent program. It's a little bit like Finale with note entry, although you have to tell it which voice you are entering by clicking on the tick box before you can enter notes correctly. You also have to make sure you tick the right voice before you try to rub out the notes using the eraser.
This is the best program I have used for harmony work and I am a music student. I've looked at paid programs and this one has been a breeze to pick up and use. It lists all possible errors, this does not always mean they are errors and you have to read the notes given with the error or do your own research as to decide whether you permit it or not. It pretty much covers everything I need for grade 6-8 theory if not more.

Pros:
You can add Roman numeral analysis using the select tool and the VII tool.
It can analyze the chords for you.
You can hear playback
It occasionally makes suggestions on alternatives when an error has occurred
It is free
There is a help file
You can choose 4 part harmony/close and three part - so it is fine for keyboard analysis too.

The only cons I would say are:
You need to lock your own roman analysis so the program does not reanalyze and write over your chords
You cannot customize which errors it sees
You need to run as admin
The note names are in French (but these can be changed)
Some extended help menus take you to a french website (again this can be translated using google, its a minor inconvenience)

For a free program I couldn't recommend it more.

Mine stopped working at first but then started working after a set of the software to run as admin.
